Area 4: ARC Wilderness & Remote First Aid

Going to Philmont or a High Adventure Base?  Some ofyour crew are probably required to have Wilderness First Aidcertification.    Want to learn more about how to take care ofmedical emergencies in the Wilderness?   Enrollment is now open forthe American Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid course in beautifulSan Clemente.   

On the weekend of May 19-20, 2018 ( from 0700-1830 onSaturday and 1230 to 1800 on Sunday) there will be an American Red Cross (ARC)Wilderness and Remote First Aid  (WRFA) course in SanClemente.   WRFA program is based on the BSA Wilderness First AidCurriculum and Doctrine Guidelines with enhanced content to meet OSHA's bestpractices for Workplace First Aid Programs.   Participants must be 14years of age and have current CPR certification from either ARC or AHA orequivalent  If you want ARC CPR/AED/SFA certification - courses will beannounced on the ecrbsa.com website shortly to do in the next month and in theweeks before the WRFA course.    Please be advised that thecourse will conform to the ARC requirements.

The class is a 16 hour course so both Saturday and Sundayattendance is required.   If you would like to take this course,please sign-up with me by an email response (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)providing me with your name, course, phone number, unit and course date. The cost will be $90 for registered scouts / scouters.  The fee is tocover ARC participant fees, the cost of materials , books, supplies, lunch andsnacks.  Interested scouts/adults who wish to take the course areencouraged to sign-up as soon as possible as the class is limited per ARCrules.  I will also be providing participants with some additional firstaid materials and supplies I think this will be helpful in addition to the WRFArequired material.   Further details will be sent later to those whoenroll.   American Red Cross Certification is valid for a two yearperiod.

Very briefly the class objectives are to cover:identification of delayed help emergency situations; identify causes andprevention of injuries in wilderness areas; learn proper preparation forjourneys into the back-country; learn emergency actions steps for first aidresponse when EMS is not readily available; basic and some more advanced firstaid techniques; learn how to respond to an emotionally upset victim; learn shortdistance transfer and evacuation techniques; and, experience providing wildernessfirst aid through the means of scenarios and simulated rescues that testknowledge and skills.
